The Nānākuli Public Library is the newest branch of the Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS), the only statewide public library system in the United States. It officially opened its doors on April 14, 2018 as the state's 51st public library, giving the Leeward Coast communities of Nānākuli and Māʻili their first library — before it opened, residents had to drive to Waiʻanae or Kapolei to reach one. Designed by architect Glenn Miura of CDS International, the $15.5 million building sits on a 3-acre site fronting Nānāikapono Elementary School and carries a Hawaiian-village theme, with multiple meeting rooms, a separate outdoor program area and signage in both Hawaiian and English.
