📖 About Harlie Fulford Memorial Library

The Harlie Fulford Memorial Library has served Johnson County, Georgia, since the county's public library traces its roots to a storefront location on the Courthouse Square during the W.P.A. era of the 1930s. In 1962 the library joined the Oconee Regional Library System, headquartered in Dublin, which today serves Glascock, Johnson, Laurens, Treutlen, and Washington counties across more than 2,000 square miles. The present building at 2456 West Elm Street was constructed in 1967 using a $25,000 bequest from Harlie L. Fulford, a prominent Johnson County citizen who specified in his will that the money fund a public library for the county; the $64,000 project provided a 3,300-square-foot facility dedicated in his memory. The library offers 14 public computers with high-speed internet, free Wi-Fi throughout the building, a children's section with educational software, a conference table for small meetings, genealogy holdings including census records and cemetery books for Johnson County research, and full access to the PINES statewide catalog and GALILEO databases shared by Georgia's public library network.
