The Sanibel Public Library is the independent public library of the City of Sanibel, a barrier island community of about 6,700 residents in Lee County, Florida, best known for shell collecting, the J. N. 'Ding' Darling National Wildlife Refuge, and the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum. The library's collections and digital resources reflect the island's character: a Sanibel & Lee County section links to the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum, Big Arts, the Sanibel Historical Museum, and the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation; a Local Newspaper Archive on DigiFindIt.com preserves Islander, Island Reporter, and Island Sun issues dating back to 1961; and the Sanibel Island Oral History Collection on ContentDM captures island voices through the Roni Jo Freer Fund.
