📖 About North Palm Beach Public Library
The North Palm Beach Public Library began informally in 1963 inside the women's locker room of the village's old Country Club, championed by the local branch of the American Association of University Women and key advocates including Patricia Atwater. The library moved to its permanent 24,893-square-foot home at 303 Anchorage Drive on October 4, 1969, opening with a gold-carpeted reading room, a children's section, a Florida collection, and approximately 11,000 donated volumes. Unlike most Florida public libraries, North Palm Beach operates as a fully independent municipal facility rather than a branch of the larger Palm Beach County Library System, giving Village residents a locally governed institution responsive to community needs. A 2018 children's section renovation — prompted by a surge in program attendance from 2,441 visitors in 2013 to 14,191 in 2017 after a partnership with The Conservancy School — reflects the library's commitment to youth services. Today the collection numbers nearly 50,000 circulating items, and the library offers Rosetta Stone language software in 30 languages, a genealogy center, and digital access to Ancestry.com and MyHeritage.
