West Kendall Regional Library is one of the largest branches in the Miami-Dade Public Library System, occupying roughly 45,700 square feet inside the Hammocks Town Center on Hammocks Boulevard. It is unusual among the system's regional libraries for being located within a shopping center rather than a standalone civic building, putting the collection alongside the everyday errands of the surrounding neighborhoods. The branch opened in December 1990, was severely damaged by Hurricane Andrew in August 1992, and reopened after repairs in 1994. Today it anchors library service for the sprawling West Kendall area with a 150-capacity auditorium, medium and small meeting rooms, and a coworking center. Its YOUmake Miami location adds creative workshops and hands-on technology to a program lineup that spans early literacy, tutoring, and community health resources.
