📖 About Henry Carter Hull Library

Henry Carter Hull Library is Clinton's independent public library, housed in a modern 20,000-square-foot facility at 10 Killingworth Turnpike that opened in September 1998. The library traces its roots to 1910, when twelve women of the Literary and Thimble Club incorporated the Clinton Public Library Association with 925 books. In 1924, Henry Carter Hull (1849–1929) — president of Clinton National Bank — deeded the bank's vacated red-brick building on Post Office Square to the library association, giving the institution that would eventually bear his name its first permanent home. Today the library holds roughly 68,000 volumes and circulates more than 283,000 items annually to a community of about 13,260 residents. Beyond physical collections, the library operates Henry on Main — a satellite used-book shop and community gathering space on West Main Street — and lends musical instruments, Roku streaming devices, and mobile Wi-Fi hotspots. The library participates in Connecticut's borrowIT CT program, giving cardholders borrowing privileges at 191 public libraries statewide.
