The Bagdad Public Library is the community library for Bagdad, Arizona — one of the state's last two genuine company towns, a copper-mining settlement where claims were first staked around 1882 and whose open-pit mine still operates under Freeport-McMoRan. Housed in Suite C of the Bagdad Community Campus at 700 W. Palo Verde, the library shares a civic building with the town's fitness center, aquatic center, museum, and day care, making the campus the cultural and social heart of this Yavapai County community of about 1,900 residents. As a branch of the Yavapai County Free Library District — a special taxing district established in 1987 — the library gives Bagdad residents free access to more than one million shared items through the Yavapai Library Network's 59-member consortium, along with digital collections, professional databases, and statewide eBook resources, without requiring the 60-mile drive to Prescott.
