📖 About Desert Broom Library

Desert Broom Library serves the far-north Cave Creek Road corridor of Phoenix with a compact 15,000-square-foot building whose design draws directly from desert ecology. Its most defining feature is a large sheltering roof that, much like a desert plant, creates a nurturing microclimate around the building and protects visitors from the sun and weather. The sustainability of that approach earned the library LEED certification and a string of design honors, including the 2006 ALA/IIDA Award for Innovation in Sustainable Design. Inside, a 60-person multi-purpose room hosts community programs, and the branch is equipped with a dedicated assistive computer workstation for patrons with disabilities. Practical touches make it easy to use around the clock and on the go: 24/7 holds lockers let cardholders pick up reserved materials any time, mobile printing lets visitors send jobs from their own devices, and electric-vehicle charging stations serve the parking lot. Accessible parking is provided in the southwest lot.
