📖 About Chukchi Consortium Library
The Chukchi Consortium Library is housed within the University of Alaska Fairbanks Chukchi Campus at 604 3rd Avenue in Kotzebue, a community of approximately 3,200 residents on the Baldwin Peninsula, 33 miles above the Arctic Circle on Kotzebue Sound. Kotzebue is the borough seat and transportation hub of the Northwest Arctic Borough, serving as the entry point for the Red Dog Mine — one of the world's largest zinc mines — and as the regional center for many predominantly Inupiaq communities. The library functions as a consortium resource serving both the campus's distance-education students and the broader Kotzebue public, following the model used across rural Alaska where UAF community campuses double as the community's main library. The collection supports research, literacy and lifelong learning for a population whose nearest comparable library is Nome, roughly 184 air miles to the south. Cardholders gain access to Alaska's statewide SLED digital portal and the Alaska Digital Library for free ebooks and research databases.
