📖 About Cantwell Community Library

The Cantwell Community Library is a small but vital public library operated in partnership with the Denali Borough School District, located at 1 School Road in Cantwell, Alaska. Cantwell sits at 63 degrees north latitude where the Denali Highway meets the Parks Highway, roughly 150 miles north of Anchorage, surrounded by the vast Alaskan wilderness of Denali Borough. The community was originally a flag stop on the Alaska Railroad and takes its name from Lieutenant John C. Cantwell, a military explorer who commanded the revenue steamer Nunivak on the Yukon River in 1899-1901. The library serves Cantwell’s residents and the surrounding Denali Borough, providing books, computers, and access to Alaska’s statewide digital resources — an essential lifeline in a region where the nearest large public library is nearly 80 miles away in Nenana.
