📖 About Annie L. Awbrey Public Library
The Annie L. Awbrey Public Library traces its roots to 1934, when members of the Roanoke Literacy Club gathered a modest collection of books and stored them in a local clothing store to provide reading materials to the community. The collection outgrew its early homes — including the high school gymnasium — and the library settled into its current building on College Street in 1972. Named in honor of Annie L. Awbrey, a longtime champion of literacy in Randolph County, the library is operated by the City of Roanoke as part of the Cheaha Regional Library system. Today it holds approximately 20,000 volumes, including reference books, genealogy and local history materials, books on CD, and DVDs, alongside seven public computers and free wireless internet. Library cards are free for Randolph County residents with a photo ID and proof of address.
