The Millport Public Library is a branch of the Northwest Regional Library system, which has served Marion, Lamar, and Franklin counties since its formation in 1962. Millport itself has a colorful history: originally called Lick Skillet and later relocated twice — first in 1858 and again around 1882 to follow the Georgia Pacific Railroad — the town was incorporated in 1887 and quickly became Lamar County's most populous community for a decade. Today the library at 920 Black Street holds over 10,700 volumes and provides residents with access to the full Northwest Regional catalog, interlibrary loan, and the Alabama Virtual Library's statewide digital collection.
