❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Was Fultondale Public Library always at 500 Byrd Lane?
No. The library previously operated from Old Walker Chapel Road before moving to its current purpose-built facility at 500 Byrd Lane, beside the Quail Ridge shopping center, which opened on May 22, 2013. The new building nearly doubled usable space to just under 8,000 square feet and added features like a children's computer area, self-checkout, a coffee station and an outdoor patio.
How long has Fultondale been part of the Jefferson County Library Cooperative?
Fultondale is one of the original 17 charter members of JCLC, which began in 1978. The cooperative — formalized through contracts in 1980 and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1985 — operates on a 'one county, one library card' model, meaning your Fultondale card works at all 40+ JCLC member libraries.
Can I access digital resources from home with a Fultondale library card?
Yes. With your JCLC library card you can borrow ebooks and audiobooks through the Libby app (powered by OverDrive at jclc.overdrive.com) anytime. Alabama residents can also access the Alabama Virtual Library (avl.lib.al.us) — a state-funded collection of databases and encyclopedias — free of charge, often without even needing a card, via geolocation.
Does the library offer evening or weekend hours?
The library is open Monday through Friday, with extended evening hours until 7:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. For 24/7 digital access, JCLC cardholders can use Libby/OverDrive and the Alabama Virtual Library at any time.
