📖 About Hudson Area Public Library
The Hudson Area Public Library is the public library serving the City of Hudson, the Village of North Hudson, and the Towns of Hudson and St. Joseph in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, just across the river from the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro. Its roots reach back to 1903, when Hudson opened a Carnegie library — the neoclassical 1904 limestone building at 304 Locust Street that still stands and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The library outgrew that home and now operates from a much larger space at 700 First Street, which it has shared with the Hudson Police Department since 2010; in April 2025 the Hudson City Council named 700 First Street the library's permanent home and authorized a planned expansion of its roughly 19,000 square feet. The library is fine-free, so overdue fines are never a barrier to borrowing, and it belongs to the MORE consortium of the Indianhead Federated Library System (IFLS), meaning one card reaches more than a million shared items across dozens of west-central Wisconsin libraries.
