Orem Public Library sits at the center of the city's civic complex at 58 North State Street, where it first opened in 1969. In 1995 a children's wing was added thanks to donations from resident Karen Ashton and the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival, which grew out of the Friends of the Orem Public Library and remains one of the nation's premier storytelling events. Today the 62,939-square-foot building holds more than 285,000 items and circulates roughly 1.4 million per year; its children's collection of about 97,000 books is the largest in the state. In Fall 2020 the library opened Library Hall, a performance and events wing anchored by the 500-seat Ashton Auditorium. The library is part of the Beehive Library Consortium, which powers its Libby/OverDrive digital collection alongside statewide access through Utah's Online Public Library.
