📖 About Orangeburg County Library
The Orangeburg County Library is the main library of the Orangeburg County Library System, serving residents across Orangeburg County in the South Carolina Lowcountry Midlands. After more than fifty years on Louis Street, the library opened a new $8.5 million, 50,000-square-foot building at 1645 Russell Street — the former Piggly Wiggly site — in the fall of 2021. The larger facility added a dedicated teen room, a children's area, meeting space, a walking trail and a 450-seat conference center and amphitheater to the county's services. Any Orangeburg County resident can get a free library card, which borrows across the county system and its bookmobile using a shared Polaris catalog. Alongside books, the library offers public computers, interlibrary loan, notary service, and a well-used local history and genealogy collection.
