📖 About Tigard Public Library
Tigard Public Library opened in 1963 after the Tigard Junior Women's Club successfully lobbied the city council to establish a library, starting with 1,011 donated books in a former city hall on Main Street. Over the following decades it outgrew two locations before Tigard voters approved a $13 million bond in 2002 for a permanent home. The current 47,500-square-foot building at 13500 SW Hall Boulevard opened August 2, 2004, designed by SRG Partnership and built by Hoffman Construction Company at a final cost of $14.3 million. The two-story brick-faced structure features a 170-seat community room, a gas fireplace, and a glass atrium. On the second floor, the Local History Room holds materials documenting Tigard's development from 1850 to the present, including business histories, maps, and biographies of prominent residents. The library is a full member of Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS), giving cardholders access to 1.5 million items across 16 partner libraries as well as a rich suite of digital resources including Libby, Kanopy, and the Oregon Statewide Database Licensing Program (Gale databases).
