About Watauga County Public Library
Watauga County Public Library is part of the Appalachian Regional Library system, serving the High Country communities of Watauga County from its convenient location just one block north of historic downtown Boone. Set amid the spectacular Blue Ridge Mountains, the library at 140 Queen Street serves a vibrant community that includes Appalachian State University students, long-time residents, and the growing number of newcomers drawn to Boone's outdoor recreation and cultural scene. The Western Watauga Branch at 1085 Old US Hwy 421 in Sugar Grove extends service into the more rural western areas of the county.
The library offers a comprehensive collection of print and digital materials, with particular strengths in local Appalachian history and culture. Cardholders enjoy access to Libby for eBooks and audiobooks, Kanopy for streaming films, and the NCLive network of statewide databases covering topics from health to business to literature. The library hosts regular children's storytimes, teen programs, and adult literacy and learning initiatives that reflect the unique needs of the mountain community.
