📖 About Elkin Public Library

Elkin Public Library is a branch of the Northwestern Regional Library (NWRL), a multi-county system headquartered in Elkin, North Carolina, and sharing the NC Cardinal statewide catalog. The library has served the community at 111 North Front Street in the foothills city of Elkin in Surry County, located where the Yadkin River meets the Blue Ridge. The Friends of the Elkin Public Library have supported the branch since 1964, funding books, e-books, audiobooks, videos, computer equipment, educational programs and furniture through membership dues and an annual used book sale. In 2012 the library's Board of Trustees established the Elkin Public Library Endowment with a bequest from Ola Williams Hendren, administered by the Winston-Salem Foundation; the endowment supplements the operating budget and has funded collection development, electronic resources and community programming. Free Wi-Fi is available both inside the library and 24 hours a day outside the building. The library shares its Regional Director (Joan Sherif) with the broader NWRL system. Abby Walker leads the Elkin branch team, with a robust calendar of adult, teen and children's events including book clubs, storytimes, cooking classes, author talks and homeschool programming.
