University City Public Library
University City Public Library opened in December 1939 with 8,000 books and a federal grant, moved into its current 1969 building at 6701 Delmar Boulevard at the heart of the Delmar Loop, and has grown to over 150,000 items including a second-floor art gallery and a Makerspace with a Glowforge Pro laser cutter, 3D scanner, long-arm quilting machine and Cricut. 📖 About University City Public Library
University City Public Library is the public library of University City, Missouri — a racially diverse inner-ring city of approximately 35,000 in St. Louis County, anchoring the eastern end of the celebrated Delmar Loop arts and dining district. The library was established by citizen vote and opened in December 1939 at 630 Trinity with 8,000 books, funded by a $32,800 federal grant and a local bond issue. By the 1960s the original location had become overcrowded; a $950,000 bond issue (1966) combined with a $500,000 federal grant funded the current building at 6701 Delmar Boulevard, which opened to the public in December 1969. Today the library holds well beyond 150,000 volumes plus music CDs, DVDs, spoken word recordings and portable technology including wireless hotspots and video cameras. Its second-floor gallery exhibits professional artwork for seven months of the year, rotating to show work from public schools, the University City Art Association and the annual UC Photo Show. A 2025 Makerspace addition on the second floor offers public access to a Glowforge Pro laser cutter, Cricut Maker 3, long-arm quilting machine, sewing and embroidery machines, a 3D scanner and a large-format printer.
