First Regional Library is the headquarters branch of a cooperative library system established in 1950 to serve five counties of northern Mississippi: DeSoto, Panola, Tate, Lafayette, and Tunica (which joined in 1968). Hernando, the DeSoto County seat, sits roughly 20 miles south of Memphis along Interstate 55, making it the natural hub for a system that now operates 14 branches. The Hernando branch at 370 West Commerce Street houses the system's administrative offices and offers one of the widest service arrays in the region — genealogy databases, an online law library, employment resources, interlibrary loan, courier delivery among all branches, and a deep digital collection through OverDrive and Libby. A no-fines card option for children reflects the system's community-first philosophy.
