📖 About Pulaski County Public Library
The Pulaski County Public Library traces its origins to 1905, when the Winamac Public Library opened as a small reading room in downtown Winamac on what is traditionally the land of the Potawatomi and Miami peoples — the town's very name honors Potawatomi Chief Winamac, and Pulaski County was named for Polish Revolutionary War general Casimir Pulaski. A Carnegie Corporation grant in 1915 funded a permanent building at 121 South Riverside Drive, which opened November 13, 1916. Over the following century it expanded three times: a physical addition in 1982 added significant public space; a 2008 project created a dedicated Reading Room and expanded children's services; and a 2019–2021 comprehensive renovation introduced an accessible ramp, elevator, the Magnolia Room for community gatherings, and a dedicated Local History Room. The library's digital collection launched in 2010 and by 2024 accounted for more than 40 percent of all checkouts. In 1969 the institution was formally renamed the Pulaski County Public Library when its service area expanded to nine county townships.
