📖 About Selbyville Public Library
The Selbyville Public Library serves the town of Selbyville in the far southeastern corner of Sussex County, Delaware, close to the Maryland line and the Fenwick Island beaches. After nearly a decade of planning and fundraising, the library moved out of its cramped former quarters and, on November 14, 2024, opened a new $16 million, 15,000-square-foot facility at 11 West McCabe Street — roughly three times the size of the building it replaced. Designed by architect Craig Williams of the Becker Morgan Group and built by the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, the new library holds a collection of about 13,000 items moved from the old branch and can seat 200 people in its community meeting room, up from just 25 before. The library participates in the shared Delaware Library Catalog, so a Selbyville card borrows from every public library in the state and unlocks Delaware's full slate of digital resources. The original library building next door, along with the historic Townsend House — former home of Delaware Governor John G. Townsend — was preserved for the Selbyville Historical Society.
