📖 About Berthoud Community Library District

The Berthoud Community Library District has served northern Larimer County since 1932, when the Berthoud Women's Club established the town's first reading room in the old grade school. The collection moved to Town Hall in 1952, growing through two expansions before a landmark gift from Dr. Helen and Dr. Bruce Fickel — along with support from local businesses, civic groups, and the Town of Berthoud — made a stand-alone building possible at 236 Welch Avenue in 1995. In July 2008 the library formally became an independent taxing district, giving it a stable funding base to serve the growing community of roughly 11,000 residents. Today the library circulates more than 85,000 items per year from a 22,400-volume collection, backed by access to 1.8 million shared items through the AspenCat consortium. Each September it hosts the annual Berthoud Literary Festival, a multi-day author event that has become a signature cultural moment for the region.
