📖 About Ashley County Library
Ashley County Library has served the residents of Ashley County, Arkansas since 1936, when it opened in a single 12×14-foot room in the Norman Building on East Lincoln Street with 153 donated books and $45.75 in its account. Over nine decades the library grew through four buildings, adding a children's wing in 1960 and a new entrance in 1978. In September 2025 the library moved to a completely renovated building at 401 N. Mulberry Street, a project funded by the Friends of the Library after four decades of dedicated saving. The new facility features dedicated meeting rooms, reading nooks, and expanded room for programming. Director Holly Gillum, who has led the library since 2016, oversaw the move and is expanding services to include a co-workspace for local entrepreneurs. Today the library maintains a collection of more than 50,000 volumes, a genealogy section, free Wi-Fi, public-access computers, and programming for all ages.
