📖 About Hueytown Public Library
Hueytown Public Library opened on June 7, 1969, established by Mrs. Mary Roberts at the request of Library Board Chairman Steve Christian. Its first two decades were spent in a series of improvised quarters inside City Hall — including a hallway, the Mayor's afternoon office, a room near the police department, and a space once slated for a jail cell. In October 1990 the library moved into its own standalone building in the Knight's Triangle commercial area, a renovated former Foodland grocery store between Hueytown Road and High School Road. Today the library holds approximately 54,450 volumes and circulates more than 56,000 items per year, serving a community of roughly 21,600 residents. Hueytown joined the Jefferson County Library Cooperative in the early 1980s, giving cardholders shared access to every public library in Jefferson County — over 40 locations — on a single card.
