📖 About Lantana Public Library

The Lantana Woman's Club established a lending collection in 1947 at the Lantana Community Church on Oak Street, seeded with 900 volumes donated by the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach. For four years volunteers staffed the shelves before librarian Nancy Bauskett formally cataloged the collection in the early 1950s. The library moved to the old bridge tender's house in 1952 and stayed for four decades until the town purchased the former Carteret bank building at 205 W. Ocean Ave. in 1994, transforming it into the current landmark space. In 2014 Lantana went live with Koha — becoming the first South Florida public library on the open-source system — and the library now holds more than 23,000 print volumes alongside thousands of digital items. A particular treasure is the Linehan Digital Library, an online archive of 600+ historic images documenting Lantana's past.
