📖 About Cragin Memorial Library
Presented to the Town of Colchester in 1905, Cragin Memorial Library grew from the Colchester Library Association — formally organized in 1879 — which donated its collection when the permanent building opened on Linwood Avenue. The original 4,000-square-foot structure, with its pressed-brick exterior and limestone detailing, was expanded in 2002 with a 16,000-square-foot addition that nearly quadrupled the library's footprint while preserving the 1905 facade. Today the library holds more than 82,000 items and is open 49 hours each week, hosting hundreds of community programs annually. It is part of the LCI shared catalog, giving Colchester cardholders direct access to the holdings of 31 Connecticut public libraries.
