📖 About Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library District
The Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library District (AMPL) is a special-purpose taxing district created to serve the municipalities of Alsip and neighboring Merrionette Park, two Cook County villages on the southwest side of the Chicago metropolitan area. Alsip was settled in the 1830s, formally incorporated in 1927, and named for Frank Alsip, who opened a brickyard there in 1885; the Tri-State Tollway opened in 1959 and accelerated the area's suburban growth. The library building stands at 11960 S. Pulaski Road in Alsip and belongs to SWAN Libraries, a large multitype library cooperative whose shared catalog links hundreds of Illinois libraries. AMPL's card unlocks an unusually broad digital suite — Libby/OverDrive, hoopla, Kanopy streaming, Mango Languages for 70+ language courses, and Tutor.com — alongside in-house services that include Wi-Fi hotspot loans, meeting and study rooms, and the popular Museum Adventure Pass program giving cardholders free or discounted admission to area cultural sites.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Why is it called the Alsip-Merrionette Park Library District if the library is only in Alsip?
The library district was created to serve both Alsip and the neighboring village of Merrionette Park, which borders Alsip to the east. Rather than each small community operating its own separate library, the two municipalities share a single library district funded by property taxes from both communities. The library building is located on Pulaski Road in Alsip, but Merrionette Park residents are full members of the district.
What is the Museum Adventure Pass program?
The Museum Adventure Pass allows Alsip-Merrionette Park Library cardholders to borrow passes that provide free or reduced admission to area museums, zoos, botanic gardens, and cultural attractions. Passes are checked out like books and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Ask staff for the current list of participating venues and how to reserve a pass.
Does the library lend Wi-Fi hotspots?
Yes. The library offers Wi-Fi hotspot devices for loan so cardholders can access the internet at home. This is especially useful for residents who lack reliable home broadband service. Ask staff about borrowing periods and any eligibility requirements.
What catalog does AMPL use, and can I borrow from other libraries?
The Alsip-Merrionette Park Library is a member of SWAN Libraries, a large cooperative of public and academic libraries in Illinois that shares a single online catalog. With your AMPL card you can request materials held by hundreds of SWAN member libraries and have them delivered to the Alsip location for pickup.
