📖 About Fuller Public Library
Fuller Public Library was established in 1877 through the generous bequest of Hillsborough native Mark W. Fuller, who left funds to open a free public library for his hometown. The library began with just over 300 volumes in a rented room at the Whittemore Block before finding its permanent home in the Governor John Butler Smith House — a Queen Anne and Colonial Revival building designed by William M. Butterfield and transferred to the town by the Smith heirs in 1926 for community use. The NH Preservation Alliance recognized the library's painstaking building rehabilitation with a Merit Award after a 2008 state fire marshal inspection identified safety concerns. Today the library hosts preschool story times, a teen book group, adult education through Project LIFT, hands-on workshops in partnership with the Hillsborough Historical Society, and museum passes for area attractions. The library's external wireless network stays active beyond regular hours, ensuring connectivity for patrons studying outside the building.
