📖 About Hill Public Library
The town of Hill voted to create its public library in March 1892, and the doors opened on January 4, 1893 — with just 105 books, $15 from the town budget, and 116 registered patrons. Over the following century the library moved twice: first to the Crescent Street area when the original Hill Village relocated in 1941, and then to its present dedicated space in 2002 after a brief closure in late 2001. Today the library holds more than 13,000 volumes and offers interlibrary loan delivery every Friday through the New Hampshire State Library network, dramatically expanding what any patron can borrow. A standout amenity is the museum pass program — cardholders can check out free passes to the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, NH State Parks, Mount Washington, and Canterbury Shaker Village. Community life centers on the small but cozy meeting room (capacity 12), a weekly Dewey's Coffee Cafe, a monthly book club, and Children's Hour every Thursday. The Friends of the Library, active since 1993, fund special events and improvements beyond the operating budget.
