📖 About KPL Southwest Neighborhood Library

Southwest Neighborhood Library opened in 1981 as a neighborhood library serving Kenosha's south side, then underwent a major expansion and renovation in 2004 that brought the facility to 42,300 square feet, establishing it as the largest branch and the operational hub of Kenosha Public Library. As an Anchor Branch, Southwest provides the full range of KPL services to residents of Kenosha's southeastern neighborhoods and functions as the headquarters for delivery of major library services countywide. The facility is entirely ADA accessible, with accommodating technology stations throughout its 81 public and 10 accessible parking spaces. A unique feature of Southwest is the Afterwords Bookstore, which sells donated titles and raises funds for library programming — a rare in-library used bookstore that draws community members beyond typical library visits. Southwest also houses the Hub Media Lab, a professional-grade TV studio where patrons can record video content, making it one of the few public libraries in southeastern Wisconsin with broadcast-quality production capabilities. The branch serves as both a cooling center and heating center during extreme weather events, and functions as a designated polling place for local elections.
