📖 About Eagle Pass Public Library

The Eagle Pass Public Library traces its origins to 1927, when a group of civic-minded women determined the city deserved a public library. A formal building opened in 1939 with WPA labor, housing 7,000 books on Quarry Street. The library eventually moved into the landmark 1912 federal post office building at 589 E Main Street — a historic structure donated to the city — and in December 2017 it reopened after a two-year, $4 million restoration that made it the crown jewel of Eagle Pass's historic district. Today the library maintains a robust Spanish-language collection on its main floor, reflecting the bilingual character of this Rio Grande border community of about 27,000 residents. Governed by the City of Eagle Pass, it offers free library cards, public computers, and a Technology Meeting Room with a Smart Board and projector available for community reservations.
