📖 About El Dorado County Library — Placerville Branch
The Placerville Branch of El Dorado County Library serves the historic county seat of Placerville — known as 'Old Hangtown' to Gold Rush prospectors — in the Sierra Nevada foothills at elevation 1,800 feet. The library system traces its roots to a small Placerville City Library founded in 1906 on the upper floor of Confidence Hall; a County Free Library followed in 1947 when community volunteers raised funds to purchase a permanent home. Today the Placerville Branch offers five days of service each week, with evening hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to serve working families. Patrons can borrow books, DVDs, audiobooks, and educational kits, and the branch provides free Wi-Fi, public computers, and mobile printing via Princh. The system participates in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, mailing free books monthly to enrolled children from birth to age five anywhere in El Dorado County.
