Emily Fowler served as Denton's first city librarian in the 1930s and '40s, and the Central Library bearing her name has grown into a full-service research and community hub at 502 Oakland Street. The system's two branches — the Central Library and the North Branch at 3020 N. Locust Street — together serve a college town of over 140,000 people, home to the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University.
