📖 About Reby Cary Youth Library

The Reby Cary Youth Library opened in 2021 as Fort Worth's first library built exclusively for young people, a roughly $3.25 million project funded by the 2014 bond program. It is named for Reby Cary, the late Fort Worth educator, historian and state legislator who became the first Black instructor at Tarrant County Junior College (1967), the first Black professor at the University of Texas at Arlington (1969), and an early Black member of the Fort Worth ISD school board. The branch holds an entirely youth-focused collection and welcomes children and teens with lounge seating, in-house laptops for young patrons, and 3D printing. Outside, a garden and play space with a small stage host storytimes and programs. To keep the space child-centered, no unaccompanied adults are permitted.
