📖 About Westfield Memorial Library
The Westfield Memorial Library's origins reach back to 1874, when twenty-six women formed the Every Saturday Book Club and began exchanging books; by 1876 it was open to the public and by 1879 incorporated as the Westfield Public Library. A $10,000 donation from Andrew Carnegie funded the 1909 library building at Broad and Elmer Streets. The current building at 550 East Broad Street — formerly the Grant School site — opened in the early 2000s with $3.5 million in funding, and the name 'Memorial' honors all Westfield residents who gave their lives in service to the nation. Today the library offers an eclectic mix of services: a Makerspace with equipment for creative projects, museum pass lending, a Native Seed Library, a Books on Wheels homebound delivery service, mobile hotspot lending and Health Literacy Tote Kits — all open to Union County residents with a free library card.
