Hennepin County Library is one of the largest public library systems in the United States, with 41 locations serving Minneapolis and the suburbs of Hennepin County, Minnesota. The system in its current form was created on January 1, 2008, when the urban Minneapolis Public Library merged into the suburban Hennepin County Library. Its collection includes more than 4 million items, anchored by the Minneapolis Central Library downtown, designed by architect Cesar Pelli and opened in 2006.
