📖 About Fleet Branch — Cleveland Public Library
Fleet Branch traces its roots to 1928, when a community station called the Fleet House opened on Fleet Avenue to serve the growing immigrant neighborhoods of Slavic Village. It was designated a full branch in 1931 and relocated over the decades as the neighborhood evolved. In 1981, a purpose-built 8,900-square-foot branch opened at its current address — 7224 Broadway Ave — its stainless steel terne-coated roof an architectural nod to Cleveland's industrial heritage. In November 2012, the nearby Broadway Branch (a historic 1906 Carnegie library at 5437 Broadway) was merged into Fleet, consolidating services for both the Fleet Avenue and Broadway corridors of Slavic Village. In June 2026, Cleveland Public Library broke ground on a major renovation funded in part by a matching grant from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Supporting Foundation. When complete, the transformed Fleet Campus will feature a state-of-the-art digital innovation center, larger meeting spaces, and an expanded children's learning area aimed at closing digital gaps and connecting residents with workforce training and language resources. Reopening is targeted for summer 2027.
