📖 About Midland Library

Midland Library opened on March 16, 1958, and demand was so strong that its original 5,700-square-foot building was enlarged to about 6,850 square feet within a few years. A voter-approved reconstruction produced a much larger 25,000-square-foot building that opened on September 16, 1996. Under Multnomah County's $387 million capital bond, approved by voters in 2020, the branch was renovated and expanded again, growing from roughly 24,400 to about 30,000 square feet on its existing East Portland site. Midland held its grand reopening on October 26, 2024. The updated library is built to reflect its diverse surrounding communities, with signage and materials in Mandarin, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic, Spanish and English. New features include the library's first-ever sensory space, a Gathering Circle for community conversation, an outdoor interactive children's garden, a dedicated teen room and new community artwork. It remains open seven days a week on regular hours.
