The Logan Heights Library traces its roots to 1915, when it opened as the fourth branch in the City of San Diego library system, serving the working-class, largely Mexican-American neighborhoods of Logan Heights and Barrio Logan. Its current home, a 25,000-square-foot building, opened in 2009 through a partnership with the San Diego Unified School District and sits adjacent to Memorial Charter Middle School. That school partnership is unusual among San Diego branches and keeps the library woven into the daily life of local students and families. The branch is consistently one of the busiest in the system for patron visits. Inside, patrons find 33 public computers, three seminar rooms, and a large community room with a 300-person capacity alongside a smaller cultural center. The David C. Copley Foundation Teen IDEA Lab adds a music studio, makerspace, and multimedia stations for teens.
