📖 About Point Loma/Hervey Library

The Point Loma/Hervey Library opened on September 20, 2003, as part of an $11 million project funded in part by a $5 million gift from The San Diego Foundation's Hervey Family Fund, which is why the branch bears the Hervey name. Its design leans fully into Point Loma's fishing-village heritage, with nautical and marine themes running throughout the building. In the first-floor Children's Area, a sailboat serves as a small reading room outfitted with portholes, a mast, and sails, while a functioning submarine periscope gives visitors a roof-level view of the surrounding community. The branch also houses a Veterans Resource Center staffed by volunteers, reflecting the strong military presence of the Point Loma peninsula. Amenities include 23 public computers, a meeting room seating up to 120 people, and five study rooms. Special collections here focus on veterans and nautical materials, fitting for one of the largest libraries in the City of San Diego.
