The Kempsville Area Library, at 832 Kempsville Road, is one of ten branches of the Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) and serves the Kempsville area of south-central Virginia Beach. Kempsville was historically the county seat of Princess Anne County before that county merged with Virginia Beach in 1963 to form today's independent city. The library opened in 1990 according to OpenStreetMap records and provides books, audiobooks, DVDs, magazines, and digital services to the densely populated neighborhoods around the Kempsville / Indian River Road corridor.
