📖 About Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library
The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library is the main branch of the Sheridan County Public Library System, serving Sheridan and the surrounding Big Horn Mountain foothills. The library's origins go back to 1883, when John D. Loucks opened a reading room in town; by 1903 Henry A. Coffeen's donation of more than 4,000 books demanded a larger home, and Andrew Carnegie provided $12,500 in 1905 for a dedicated building. The modern era began in 1974 when Harry S. Fulmer's $300,000 gift funded a new structure, named in honor of his wife Margaret Fulmer; after his death in 1975 an endowment was established to support the library in perpetuity. A 1986 expansion brought the building to 30,000 square feet, and a 1995 addition created a dedicated 3,400-square-foot Wyoming Room for regional history. The library belongs to Wyoming's WYLD network, giving cardholders access to GoWYLD digital resources statewide.
