📖 About South Jefferson Public Library
The South Jefferson Public Library traces its roots to 1984, when a small 480-square-foot library opened as a community outpost on a donated lot in Summit Point, a village in the gently rolling farmland of southern Jefferson County. As the surrounding community grew, so did demand for library services. On May 13, 2003, a groundbreaking was held for an expanded, purpose-built facility on a one-acre donated lot in Summit Point's village center. The new building opened in February 2004, housing over 10,000 volumes, books on tape and CD, a dedicated children's area, two computer rooms, and a public meeting room. Today the library serves 17,800 residents across the southern portion of Jefferson County — West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle — and is part of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Libraries (MBCPL) network, sharing a catalog with partner libraries including the Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Public Library. One notable feature of the schedule: the library is open on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., one of the few small West Virginia public libraries to offer Sunday hours.
