📖 About Free Library of New Hope and Solebury

The Free Library of New Hope and Solebury traces its roots to 1908, when the Pennsylvania State Library donated 50 books that were shelved in a Main Street drugstore and available two evenings a week. Incorporated on April 2, 1918, the library grew through a Salt House home before moving in 1974 to its present address at 93 W. Ferry Street — a building originally constructed in 1876 as the New Hope Presbyterian Church. During World War I and World War II the library served as a War Services Library, supporting soldiers and the home front. A major 2015–2016 renovation, during which the library relocated temporarily to St. Martin of Tours Church, brought new HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems and a reconfigured floor plan to the historic structure. Today the library is a member of the Bucks County Free Library district and shares a unified catalog with branches across the county, so one library card opens the collections of the whole system.
