📖 About Astoria Public Library
The Astoria Public Library is the public library of Astoria, Oregon, a Clatsop County city of about 10,000 at the mouth of the Columbia River where it meets the Pacific Ocean. Astoria was the first permanent American settlement west of the Rockies, founded as a fur-trading post by John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company in 1811. The library's Astoriana Local History Room preserves the record of that history: local history books, historical directories and microfilm of area newspapers from the 1880s through 1999, available to researchers on Friday afternoons. A recently renovated multi-level building houses an Early Learning Center, a Teen Room and a Reading Room, as well as library archives. The library is a department of the City of Astoria and its catalog runs on a shared SirsiDynix platform serving the North Lincoln County region.
