The Fort Sumner Public Library has long served as a cornerstone of learning and connection in De Baca County, New Mexico. Originally located behind the Church of Christ, the library relocated in 1994 to its current address at 235 West Sumner Avenue — a remodeled Circle K building that gave it room to grow. Named Business of the Year by the Fort Sumner Chamber of Commerce, the library has continued to expand its services: in partnership with Eastern New Mexico University it now hosts a Telehealth Booth, giving residents convenient private access to virtual medical appointments. Regular programming includes monthly Kids' Craft & Movie sessions on Friday afternoons, monthly Senior Movie afternoons for older adults, and the popular annual Summer Reading Program. The library is led by Director Tori Davis, who grew up visiting libraries with her grandfather and previously served as Youth Specialist and Assistant Director, and assisted by Assistant Director Ruth Guyette, a Navy veteran and first-generation American who speaks Spanish and works closely with families across Fort Sumner.
