📖 About Aztec Public Library
The Aztec Public Library is the public library of Aztec, New Mexico — the county seat of San Juan County in the Four Corners region. The push for a local library dates to 1908, when residents formed the Altrurian Society with the specific goal of raising funds for a town library. Decades later, New Deal investment finally made that vision real: the Works Progress Administration constructed a small library building in Aztec in 1938, at a time when many rural New Mexico communities still had no public library at all. A new and larger building replaced the WPA structure in 1962, and the library has grown with the community ever since. Today the Aztec Public Library holds roughly 29,000 volumes and circulates more than 50,000 items annually to a service population of about 6,600 residents.
