📖 About Williston Community Library
The Williston Community Library serves the City of Williston and Williams County in the heart of North Dakota's Bakken oil region. Located at 1302 Davidson Drive, the library has grown alongside Williston itself — a city that expanded rapidly in the 2010s as oil development brought workers and families from across the country. The library's mission is to provide library access to all individuals in Williams County, and it pursues that goal through its main branch, the Williams County Bookmobile (funded jointly with Williams County through a 2023 contribution agreement), and a robust array of online services available 24 hours a day. Programs span children's storytimes, teen events, adult book discussions and community outreach. The library is governed by its own Board of Directors, which meets monthly, and supported by a separate Library Foundation that fundraises for expanded services. Cardholders have free access to the statewide ODIN database gateway, ND Library2Go (Libby/OverDrive) and Mango Languages, giving patrons digital resources that rival those of libraries in much larger cities.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Williston Community Library serve the whole county, or just the city?
Both. The library's mission is to provide access to all individuals in Williams County. It does so through the main branch at 1302 Davidson Drive and the Williams County Bookmobile, which travels to rural communities throughout the county. Williams County contributes financially to the bookmobile under a joint contribution agreement signed in 2023.
What digital resources are available to Williston library cardholders?
Cardholders have free access to the statewide ODIN electronic resource gateway (databases, encyclopedias and periodicals), ND Library2Go (Libby/OverDrive for e-books and audiobooks), Tumblebooks (children's digital books) and Mango Languages (70+ self-paced language courses). All are available 24/7 online.
Why is the library open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays but closes earlier on other days?
Thursday's extended hour (until 7 p.m.) gives working residents, students and families an extra evening window that fits around after-school and after-work schedules. Monday through Wednesday close at 6 p.m. and Friday closes at 5 p.m.; the library is closed Saturday and Sunday.
How is the Williston Community Library governed and funded?
The library is a city institution governed by its own Board of Directors, which meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the library's community room. It is funded by the City of Williston, with additional support from Williams County (for bookmobile services) and the separate Williston Community Library Foundation, which raises private funds for expanded programs and collections.
